NABPA Officially Launches Local Operations and Its BIM Internship Program

San Francisco, CA – April 2025

The National BIM Professionals Alliance (NABPA) proudly announces the official launch of its local chapter operations and the inaugural deployment of its volunteer-based BIM internship program, marking a foundational step in NABPA’s strategic roadmap to democratize BIM knowledge across the Americas.

This milestone reflects NABPA’s commitment to building a scalable and inclusive professional ecosystem centered on technical training, practical engagement, and long-term career development in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector. Through the activation of its first local teams, NABPA now begins implementing its operational framework across regions, empowering a new generation of professionals to drive digital construction transformation.

A Fully Structured Volunteer Team Supporting Regional Impact

The formation of NABPA’s local operational teams is the result of careful planning and role-based alignment designed to support a robust, multidisciplinary structure. This launch involves more than a dozen volunteer roles, each with specific responsibilities aligned with NABPA’s global standards and key performance indicators (KPIs). Among the primary departments and functions now active are:

  • Content & Media Creation
Content Directors, Blog Specialists, Editors, and Video Producers are responsible for crafting technical articles, multimedia content, and event coverage. Their mission is to educate and inspire BIM professionals, promote certifications, and reinforce NABPA’s presence across platforms.
  • Community Engagement & Moderation
Community Managers, Forum Moderators, and Engagement Interns are driving the heart of NABPA’s network by moderating discussions, organizing digital meetups, welcoming new members, and fostering collaboration among peers in local and regional chapters.
  • Operations & Technical Support
Local Operations Managers and IT Support Specialists ensure the seamless execution of workflows, the implementation of SOPs, and the optimization of digital infrastructure, including cloud-based collaboration platforms, learning systems, and automation tools.
  • Partnerships & Outreach
Partnership Leads are tasked with developing local alliances with universities, NGOs, and construction firms, aiming to establish a presence rooted in shared goals, co-branded initiatives, and mutually beneficial outcomes for members and institutions.
  • Event Coordination
Webinar and Event Coordinators oversee the planning, logistics, and promotion of events that are central to NABPA’s educational and networking mission, helping to translate community engagement into actionable outcomes like certification enrollments and referrals.

The NABPA Internship Program: Learning While Building the Future

The NABPA Internship Program is a 6-month hybrid initiative that combines real-world operational responsibilities with structured BIM training. All interns commit to:

  • 3 days/week of active collaboration in their assigned NABPA roles.
  • 3 days/week of structured technical training, aligned with the certification paths BIM MEP Specialist (Level 1) and BIM MEP Coordinator (Level 2).

Through this dual-track approach, volunteers not only gain valuable professional experience but also access NABPA’s training content free of charge. Interns are eligible to obtain official certification diplomas—optionally accredited by institutions such as Tecnológico Nacional de México (SEP) or Arizona State University (ASU)—at significantly reduced rates.

The program provides:

  • A personalized onboarding experience.
  • Direct access to mentorship from senior coordinators.
  • A path to future leadership or regional expansion roles within NABPA.

A Scalable Vision: From Local Teams to a Continental Network

With its first operational teams now in motion, NABPA reaffirms its goal to build a global network of 5 million BIM professionals, starting with a strong presence in Latin America and the United States. This first rollout validates NABPA’s operational model—designed to scale across cities, regions, and countries through replicable frameworks and standardized team structures.

This launch sets the precedent for upcoming chapters in key cities, where the same principles of professional development, digital equity, and community empowerment will be applied.

A Message from the Leadership

“This is not just the launch of a team. It is the ignition of a movement to redefine what it means to be a BIM professional in the 21st century. We are building a global workforce that is technically capable, digitally empowered, and locally anchored. And this is only the beginning.”
— NABPA Executive Leadership Team
